
Nishad Yusuf, the 43-year-old celebrated editor known for his acclaimed work in Malayalam and Tamil cinema, was found dead at his residence in Kochi’s Panampilly Nagar in the early hours of Wednesday, October 30. The Kerala Police have initiated an investigation into his sudden passing, though no official cause of death has been determined. Yusuf was best known for his work on prominent films such as Kanguva and Thallumaala.
According to India Today, Malayalam media reported that Yusuf’s body was discovered around 2 a.m., though the police have yet to release an official statement. Reports suggest that suicide may be a potential cause, but authorities have not confirmed or ruled out any possibilities.
The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors’ Union confirmed Yusuf’s death on social media, expressing grief over the loss of a figure who, they stated, had played “a major role in determining the contemporary future of Malayalam cinema.”
Yusuf’s Legacy in Cinema
A native of Harippad, Nishad Yusuf made a significant mark in both Malayalam and Tamil cinema, contributing to films like Thallumaala, Unda, One, Saudi Vellakka, and Adios Amigos. His most recent project was the highly anticipated pan-India film Kanguva, starring Suriya and Bobby Deol, which is slated for release on November 14. Yusuf had several other high-profile projects underway, including the Mammootty and Mohanlal-starrer Bazooka and Alappuzha Gymkhana.
In 2022, he was honored with the State Award for Best Editor for Thallumaala, a film that further cemented his status as one of Malayalam cinema’s leading editors.
