"Animal" Set for Netflix Release on Republic Day Amidst Legal Dispute Resolution

After a legal tussle, the much-anticipated film “Animal,” directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri, is set to premiere on Netflix India on Republic Day.

In a statement, Ranbir Kapoor expressed joy over the film’s success in theaters and the upcoming global release on the streaming platform. He stated, “We are absolutely overjoyed by the response Animal received in theatres and now I am glad that audiences worldwide will get a chance to watch it in the comfort of their homes. The opportunity to showcase our work globally is truly special.”

The film, an action drama exploring modern-day relationships and delving into the toxic dynamics between a father and son (played by Anil and Ranbir, respectively), will be available not only in Hindi but also in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada on Netflix.

“Animal” faced a legal dispute earlier involving co-producers CINE 1 Studios Private Limited and T-Series. The matter was resolved in the Delhi High Court after Cine1 Studios filed a plea to halt the film’s OTT release until T-Series adhered to the terms of their agreement. The agreement outlined 35 percent ownership for each studio and assigned rights of first refusal and last matching right.

The settlement agreement, brought on record by the senior advocates representing the production houses, Sandeep Sethi and Amit Sibal, paved the way for the film’s OTT release.

Despite mixed reviews for its portrayal of violence and misogyny, “Animal” emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of 2023, achieving blockbuster status in both Indian and overseas box offices. The film’s success led to the confirmation of a sequel, “Animal Park.”

As “Animal” gears up for its Netflix debut, audiences worldwide can anticipate an immersive cinematic experience that explores the complexities of relationships while navigating the fallout from a legal dispute that briefly threatened the film’s release on the streaming platform.
