India’s pride, Neeraj Chopra, has reclaimed the world number one ranking in men’s javelin throw, according to the latest update from World Athletics. With 1445 points, he has overtaken Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who now sits second with 1431 points.

Season of Milestones for Neeraj

Neeraj’s journey to the top has been marked by consistent excellence throughout the 2025 season. He began his campaign with a victory at the Potch Invitational in South Africa, demonstrating strong early-season form.

In May, he made headlines with a throw of 90.23 meters at the Doha Diamond League, setting a new Indian national record and entering the elite 90m club—a rare achievement in the sport.

Strong Rivals Trail Behind

While Neeraj leads, the javelin field remains highly competitive. Germany’s Julian Weber, who delivered the best throw of the season at 91.06m, is currently in third place.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the reigning Olympic champion, occupies the fourth spot in the rankings with 1370 points, while Jakub Vadlejch of Czechia completes the top five.

Dominance Over Peters Continues

Neeraj Chopra has proven to be a tough rival for Anderson Peters this year, finishing ahead of him in all four encounters in 2025. The last time Neeraj finished behind Peters was at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest, where he earned silver and Peters took gold.

The Indian star now leads their career rivalry 16-5 in finals, emphasizing his dominance on the world stage.

Victories Keep Coming

Following his Doha success, Chopra maintained momentum with a second-place finish at the Kusocinski Memorial in Poland. He then triumphed at the Paris Diamond League, securing gold with an 88.16m throw.

Most recently, he added the Ostrava Golden Spike title to his name, rounding off a near-perfect first half of the season.
