Renowned actor Nana Patekar finds himself in hot water once again, this time for an incident on the sets of his upcoming film “Journey” in Varanasi. A video capturing Nana slapping a fan who tried to take a selfie with him has surfaced, reigniting public scrutiny and criticism.
In the viral video, Nana Patekar, donned in a brown blazer and hat, is seen shooting for his film on a busy street leading to the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi. As a fan approaches from behind to take a selfie, Nana reacts swiftly by slapping the boy at the back of his head. A crew member standing nearby intervenes, grabbing the fan by the neck and escorting him off the set.
The incident has triggered a wave of disapproval on social media, with many expressing their discontent over the actor’s actions. Social media users, recalling Nana Patekar’s past involvement in the MeToo movement, criticized the actor for his behavior towards a fan. One user on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, “This is the reality of these artistes. Such behavior with common people is unfortunate; our real heroes are at the border, not on the film screen.”
Responding to the video, another user highlighted the contrast between Nana Patekar’s on-screen persona and real-life actions, stating, “At the end of the 26/11 Mumbai Attack movie, this gentleman was talking as if he is the biggest patriot, but this is the reality of these artistes.”
Nana Patekar’s film “Journey” also stars Utkarsh Sharma, known for his role in “Gadar 2.” As the movie commenced filming earlier this month in Varanasi, Sharma expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This script has been in the works for a few years, and it has evolved beautifully. The story is not just close to my heart but also resonates with the essence of every Indian.”
Nana Patekar, who was recently seen in Vivek Agnihotri’s “The Vaccine War,” portraying the role of the former director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), has faced controversy before. In 2018, actress Tanushree Dutta accused him of sexual harassment during the shoot of the 2009 film “Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss,” marking a significant moment in the MeToo movement.
As the video continues to circulate, the internet remains divided over the actions of the veteran actor, sparking a renewed debate on the behavior of celebrities towards their fans.
