"Nana Patekar Addresses Controversial Slap Incident: Claims Misunderstanding in Set Scene, Expresses Regret"

Renowned actor Nana Patekar found himself embroiled in controversy after a video surfaced showing him slapping a boy, purportedly mistaken as a crew member, during the filming of a scene. In response to the viral video, Patekar has come forth with his side of the story, shedding light on what he perceives as a misunderstanding on the set.

Speaking in a video posted by ANI, Nana Patekar explained that the incident, captured on camera, was part of a scripted scene for his upcoming film. According to him, the sequence involved his character confronting a boy, delivering a line, and then playfully reprimanding him, which led to the act of slapping, as scripted. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the boy, mistaken by Patekar to be a crew member, turned out to be a genuine fan seeking a selfie.

Detailing the unfolding of events, Patekar expressed, “I thought he was one of our crew so I slapped him as per the scene and I told him to leave. Later, I came to know that he was not a part of the crew. So, I was going to call him back but he ran away. Maybe his friend shot the video. I have never said no to anybody for a photo. I don’t do this…This happened by mistake… If there is some misunderstanding, please forgive me… I will never do anything like this…”

Despite expressing his regret and willingness to apologize, Patekar highlighted the boy’s sudden departure out of fear, hindering any opportunity to rectify the misunderstanding.

Moreover, Anil Sharma, the director of the film ‘Journey’ where the incident occurred, defended Patekar, asserting that the slap was part of a scene. Sharma elucidated that the actor’s character portrays dementia and the scene in question involves an interaction with a fan seeking a picture, stressing that it was a scripted sequence.

Nana Patekar, currently filming for ‘Journey’ in Varanasi, aims to continue the shoot for two more weeks alongside co-star Utkarsh Sharma. As the controversy unfolds, Patekar’s explanation sheds light on what he perceives as an unintended incident, expressing his regret over the misunderstanding that ensued during the film’s shoot.
