A heated exchange between veteran actor Mukesh Khanna and Bollywood star Sonakshi Sinha has unfolded over comments made about her upbringing and a past incident on the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).
The controversy dates back to 2019 when Sonakshi failed to answer a question about the Ramayana during her appearance on KBC. Mukesh Khanna, known for his role in Mahabharat, recently revisited the incident, attributing her lack of knowledge to generational dependence on technology and questioning her upbringing.
Mukesh Khanna’s Defense
In an interview with News9, Mukesh Khanna said his remarks were not intended to malign Sonakshi or her father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha. “I am surprised she took so much time to react. I had no malicious intent. I have a very cordial relationship with her father, who is my senior,” he clarified.
Khanna explained that his comments were aimed at criticizing Generation Z’s reliance on digital platforms for knowledge. “Today’s generation has become slaves to Google and mobile phones. My intention was to use her case as an example to teach others,” he added.
Sonakshi Sinha’s Strong Rebuttal
Sonakshi took to Instagram on December 16 to address Khanna’s remarks, describing them as “distasteful.” She defended herself, noting that her inability to answer the question was a momentary lapse and not a reflection of her upbringing.
“Dear Sir, Mukesh Khanna ji… I respectfully request you to forget the incident that you keep revisiting to stay in the news. There were two women on the hot seat that day who didn’t know the answer, but you keep targeting me, and only me, for reasons that are quite obvious,” she wrote.
Sonakshi emphasized the values instilled in her by her father, adding, “The next time you decide to comment on my upbringing, please remember it is because of those values that I am responding respectfully despite your repeated remarks.”
Shatrughan Sinha’s Reaction
Sonakshi’s father, Shatrughan Sinha, has previously criticized Mukesh Khanna for his comments, defending his daughter and questioning the need for such statements.
Mukesh Khanna Teases Shaktimaan Return
Amid the controversy, Mukesh Khanna hinted at the return of his iconic superhero character Shaktimaan, stating, “Today’s generation needs the superhero.”
The exchange has sparked discussions about generational dynamics, the role of public figures in shaping narratives, and the persistence of gender biases in public discourse.
