Mukesh Khanna, the beloved face of Shaktimaan who became a superhero icon for millions in the 90s, has addressed rumors surrounding the revival of the show and the possibility of Ranveer Singh stepping into the superhero’s shoes. While Khanna confirmed the search is on for a “new Shaktimaan,” he firmly dismissed rumors suggesting he had made Ranveer Singh wait for hours at his office to discuss the role.
Khanna clarified at a recent press conference, saying, “Ranveer did wait, but it was his choice. He wanted to be there, and we enjoyed our time together. He’s a terrific actor with boundless energy, but ultimately, I decide who plays Shaktimaan,” Khanna said, emphasizing that while producers may cast actors, an actor cannot dictate who produces the project.
In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Khanna addressed the misconceptions that emerged after the announcement of Shaktimaan’s return, reiterating that he is not vying to reprise the character himself. “I have not come to prove or show that I am better than Ranveer Singh or anyone else who might take on the mantle. My role is to ensure the legacy of Shaktimaan lives on,” he stated.
Khanna clarified his current stance, noting that he would be passing the torch on to a new actor. He stressed, “I came as the older Shaktimaan to deliver a message to today’s generation because this character already has a longstanding connection with the audience from over 27 years.” Khanna further explained that his portrayal of Shaktimaan still resonates with fans and that his mission is to uphold the legacy by instilling a message of hope against the “darkness” that he believes is affecting today’s youth.
Khanna assured fans that while the original Shaktimaan aired on Doordarshan in 1997 and ran for over 450 episodes, the new adaptation will honor the essence of the original series. As for who will don the iconic Shaktimaan suit next, Khanna noted, “So rest assured, a new Shaktimaan will come. Who will it be? I don’t know yet, but the hunt is still on.”
Ranveer Singh, who visited Khanna’s office as part of initial discussions about the role, was rumored to be a strong candidate for Shaktimaan in a potential film adaptation, though Khanna has yet to confirm this casting decision.
With the “search for Shaktimaan” now officially on, fans are eagerly awaiting updates on who will carry forward this iconic role and how the revival will pay tribute to the superhero who once inspired an entire generation.
