Mouni Roy Responds to "Botox Gone Wrong" Trolls: Calls Out Social Media Negativity

Actor Mouni Roy has addressed the recent wave of online trolling targeting her physical appearance, particularly claims about “botox gone wrong” and alleged plastic surgery. The actress, who is currently promoting her upcoming horror film The Bhootnii, spoke candidly in a recent interview with Zoom about how she deals with the harsh scrutiny and personal attacks online.

Over the past few weeks, Mouni has been subjected to criticism and speculation regarding her changed looks, with some users posting AI-generated videos and edited images that she described as “disgusting” and “cringe-worthy.”

“Imagine seeing your own face distorted on somebody else’s body. It’s disgusting,” Mouni said, reacting to some of the viral AI content featuring her. “Sometimes you wonder—what do these people want to achieve with it? They’re only gathering bad wishes and negativity.”

Initially, Mouni admitted that she would go out of her way to block hateful users. “When I’d first come on Instagram and see hate, I’d actually make the effort to go to their profiles and block them,” she recalled. However, her perspective has shifted over time. “Now I feel pity. These are phantom people hiding behind screens, writing vicious things. You just want to pray for them.”

She also expressed concern over how negativity often dominates online spaces, overshadowing the genuine love and support she receives from fans. “Social media has become a very nasty place,” she said. “People are writing rubbish just to get likes. But I can’t ignore the love from fans. It’s all about how you choose to see it—glass half full or half empty.”

Mouni Roy will next be seen in The Bhootnii, where she plays a ghost named Mohabbat. The horror film also stars Sanjay Dutt in a lead role, along with Palak Tiwari, Sunny Singh, and Navneet Malik. Directed by Sidhaant Sachdev and produced by Deepak Mukut and Sanjay Dutt, the film adds a supernatural twist to Mouni’s growing repertoire of diverse roles.
