Mission Impossible 8 Day 2 Box Office: Tom Cruise Starrer Holds Strong, Surpasses Thunderbolts' Total Collection

Tom Cruise’s high-octane return as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is rewriting the record books at the Indian box office. Released on May 17, the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise has stormed through its opening weekend, registering a staggering ₹33 crore net collection in just two days, according to Sacnilk.

The action thriller kicked off with a powerful ₹16.5 crore on Saturday, marking the strongest opening for any Hollywood release in India this year. Remarkably, the film repeated its performance on Sunday, maintaining momentum and showcasing zero drop in audience turnout.

What makes this performance even more impressive is that Mission Impossible 8 has already surpassed the lifetime Indian collections of recent Marvel offerings. Thunderbolts, the much-hyped superhero ensemble, had earned ₹22.5 crore during its entire theatrical run in India. Even Captain America: Brave New World, which fared slightly better at ₹23 crore, has now been overtaken by Cruise’s latest venture in just two days.

With this momentum, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is well on its way to crossing the ₹50 crore mark within its first week. The film has already garnered 30% of what its predecessor, Mission Impossible 7, earned during its complete run in India two years ago.

Monday Test Crucial for Long-Term Success

The third day, Monday, is now seen as the film’s first real test. After a blockbuster weekend, sustaining box office numbers during the weekdays will determine if the Tom Cruise juggernaut can replicate its domestic success internationally. Early signs are positive, bolstered by strong reviews and word-of-mouth.

Adding to its momentum is the anticipation in overseas markets. The film is yet to release in the US and several key global territories, with a May 23 premiere scheduled. Trade experts suggest Mission Impossible 8 could become the first in the franchise to surpass the $1 billion mark globally, given its strong start and fanbase loyalty.

Star Power and Ensemble Cast Drive Success

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and backed by Paramount Pictures and Skydance, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning features a powerhouse cast including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, Esai Morales, and more.

The film is running in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu across theatres in India, further amplifying its reach and mass appeal.

With adrenaline-pumping action, Cruise’s ever-charismatic screen presence, and a franchise that rarely falters, Mission Impossible 8 seems set to dominate the global box office in the coming weeks.
