Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi's 'Merry Christmas' Rings in Success at the Box Office, Collects ₹11.3 Crore in India

In a festive triumph at the box office, the Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi-starrer “Merry Christmas” has left audiences captivated, earning an impressive ₹11.38 crore nett in India within its first four days since release.

Directed by the acclaimed Sriram Raghavan, “Merry Christmas” is a suspense thriller that took the cinematic plunge on January 12. The film’s box office journey saw a steady ascent, with Monday’s collections estimated at ₹1.65 crore, contributing to the overall success of the Hindi-Tamil bilingual movie.

According to a report by Sacnilk.com, the film garnered ₹3.83 crore nett in all languages on Sunday, following a commendable ₹3.45 crore nett on Saturday. “Merry Christmas” made a promising debut on its opening day, raking in ₹2.45 crore nett across Hindi and Tamil versions.

The narrative of “Merry Christmas” unfolds on an uneventful Christmas Eve, intertwining the destinies of two strangers. As romance blossoms, the plot takes unexpected turns, promising a unique cinematic experience for the audience. The film has been skillfully shot in two languages, featuring distinct supporting casts for its Hindi and Tamil versions.

The Hindi iteration boasts the talents of Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand, complementing the lead performances by Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi. Meanwhile, the Tamil version features Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams in parallel roles.

Director Sriram Raghavan shared insights into the film, stating, “Merry Christmas is a very different film from anything I have made in the past. At the core of this film is a relationship that develops between two strangers over the course of one night. There’s a crime involved, of course, but sometimes one can live a lifetime in one night.”

He continued, “We have taken a slow-burn approach; there’s anticipation and suspense, but the twists and turns are quieter, even stealthier. The viewer has to invest in the characters played by Katrina and Vijay to really enjoy the pay-off.”

As “Merry Christmas” continues its successful run in theaters, the film stands as a testament to the director’s storytelling finesse and the audience’s appetite for gripping narratives. With its engaging plot and stellar performances, the suspense thriller is expected to maintain its momentum at the box office in the coming days.
