About L2 Empuraan
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2 Empuraan is the second installment in the Lucifer franchise and his third directorial venture. The film follows the return of Stephen Nedumpally, aka Khureshi Ab’raam (Mohanlal), to Kerala after discovering that his brother, Chief Minister Jathin Ramdas (played by Tovino Thomas), has joined forces with a dangerous extremist, Baldev (Abhimanyu Singh).
While dealing with local political and familial threats, Stephen momentarily sets aside his international mission of dismantling drug cartels. The film also stars Prithviraj himself as Stephen’s loyal right-hand man Zayed Masood, and Manju Warrier as his sister Priyadarshini, both of whom have personal stakes in the unfolding drama.
Controversies and Edits
Despite its commercial success, L2 Empuraan has not been without controversy. The film came under scrutiny for scenes referencing the 2002 Gujarat riots, prompting the team to make edits and change character names. In addition, the production faced Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids and was issued Income Tax notices, adding further intrigue around the film’s release.
With its gripping storyline, stellar performances, and massive box office numbers, L2 Empuraan has cemented its place in Malayalam cinema history and continues to draw audiences across the globe.
