Actor Kubbra Sait has spoken candidly about her experience with abortion, recalling the emotional turmoil she went through at the time. In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, the Sacred Games star shared that she did not feel strong when making the decision and struggled to talk about it with anyone.
Kubbra Sait on Feeling ‘Weak and Hollow’
When the host praised Kubbra for showing strength in making her own choice, she admitted that she did not feel strong at all. “I think when I went through the abortion, I don’t think I was being strong at all. I was too weak to take it forward. I did not have the courage or the strength to say agar hum ye nahi karenge, to we will live with it (if we don’t do this, then we will live with it). I felt very weak at that time…I felt hollow. I felt like I was not worth it at all.”
She shared that it was only years later that she recognized the strength in her decision, as it helped her break societal norms and personal barriers.
Keeping It a Secret
Kubbra also revealed that she didn’t tell anyone about her abortion—not her friends, nor the director of the travel show she was hosting at the time. She recalled feeling overwhelmed when she finally confided in a close friend. “And no one knew about it, man. I went by myself and got myself through the abortion. I remember about two weeks or three weeks later, I met a girlfriend, and she went on this trip about me not listening. I just told her, and that’s when it hit me. And that’s when I started weeping because I was like, ‘S***, I’ve not told this to anyone’.”
Even years later, while working on a project, she continued to experience health issues, including excessive bleeding, but still kept her struggles to herself. It was only when she penned her book, Open Book: Not Quite a Memoir (2022), that she realized the importance of sharing her story and being kind to herself for the choices she made.
