Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday’s historical drama ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ continues to garner praise and positive word-of-mouth as it witnesses a noticeable jump in box office numbers on day two.
After a decent opening day collection of ₹7.75 crore on Friday, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh saw a boost in numbers on Saturday, earning ₹9.5 crore as per early estimates by Sacnilk. This brings the film’s total two-day domestic box office collection to ₹17.25 crore.
The film, one of the most awaited releases of the year, revisits the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre and sheds light on the relentless legal battle to expose the British atrocities. Akshay Kumar plays the lead role of C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer and freedom fighter who challenged the British empire. R. Madhavan portrays Advocate Neville McKinley, while Ananya Panday plays the determined Dilreet Gill.
Though the film’s total still trails behind Akshay Kumar’s previous release Sky Force, which collected ₹33.75 crore in two days, Kesari Chapter 2 is being appreciated for its sensitive portrayal of a critical chapter in Indian history.
Critics have highlighted the film’s gripping screenplay and impactful dialogues. A review from Hindustan Times praised the storytelling and emotional depth, stating, “The sensitivity with which the entire incident has been dealt with, is admirable… Here, the dialogues do the trick.” One standout moment includes Akshay Kumar’s powerful line from the trailer: “The empire is shrinking,” which has resonated well with audiences.
Directed by Karan Malhotra and written by Sumit Saxena, Kesari Chapter 2 leans more on emotional resonance and courtroom drama than flashy action sequences. The positive reception and rising box office numbers indicate that the film might continue to perform well through the weekend and beyond.
