Katrina Kaif Reflects on Early Modelling Days, Credits Malaika Arora as Role Model

In a recent interview with Mashable India, Katrina Kaif opened up about her initial aspirations during her early days in Mumbai’s modelling industry, attributing Malaika Arora as one of her esteemed role models.

Recalling her foray into the world of modelling, Katrina shared that upon arriving in Bombay, her sole ambition was to pursue a career as a model. During that period, she admired personalities like Madhu Sapre and Lakshmi Menon, prominent supermodels of the time. She also highlighted Malaika Arora as someone she looked up to in the industry during her formative years.

“When I started off as a model in Bombay, my intention was to be a model. My role models were Madhu Sapre and Lakshmi Menon. Those were the supermodels of that time. And even Malaika actually. She was still modelling at that time. They were the women I looked up to. And that’s what I wanted to be as a model,” Katrina shared in the interview.

Although Katrina and Malaika have never collaborated professionally, their lives intersected in a notable manner due to their associations with the Khan family. Katrina was romantically involved with Salman Khan, co-star of her upcoming film “Tiger 3,” while his brother Arbaaz Khan was previously married to Malaika.

Malaika Arora’s journey in the entertainment industry has spanned several decades, beginning as a VJ on MTV in 1997. She transitioned into modelling and gained recognition through appearances in music videos like Bally Sagoo’s “Gur Naalo Ishq Mitha.” Her Bollywood debut in Mani Ratnam’s “Dil Se” marked her iconic dance performance alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the song “Chaiyya Chaiyya.” Over the years, she became synonymous with dance numbers in films, maintaining a vibrant presence in the industry through various projects, including reality shows and special appearances.

Meanwhile, Katrina Kaif is set to appear in Sriram Raghavan’s film “Merry Christmas,” while Malaika is anticipated to make a special appearance in Arjun Varain Singh’s movie “Kho Gaye Hum Kahan,” scheduled for release on Netflix India this Tuesday, December 26.
