After the widely-publicized fallout on the sets of “Dostana 2,” filmmaker Karan Johar has shared his perspective on the possibility of working with actor Kartik Aaryan once more. While the “Dostana 2” project was shelved due to a range of factors, Karan Johar remains open to the idea of future collaboration with the young actor.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Karan Johar expressed optimism about the potential for a renewed partnership. He stated, “We nearly did a film, but for various reasons, it couldn’t happen. But you never say never. I’m sure the future holds something strong for both of us. We don’t know about ‘Dostana,’ but that film will be defining for both of us.”
The renowned filmmaker’s remarks suggest a willingness to move past the challenges that led to the abandonment of “Dostana 2.” While the specifics of the rift between Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan remain undisclosed, the possibility of their reunion on a different cinematic venture has sparked curiosity within the entertainment industry.
Karan Johar originally signed Kartik Aaryan as one of the lead actors for “Dostana 2,” a sequel to Tarun Mansukhani’s beloved 2008 romantic comedy, “Dostana.” The sequel featured Kartik alongside Janhvi Kapoor and newcomer Lakshya, with Collin D’Cunha directing the project.
However, due to reported disputes and behavior issues on the film set, Kartik Aaryan’s involvement in the project was terminated. Dharma Productions issued a statement, citing privacy considerations and announcing the shelving of “Dostana 2.” The film was slated for recasting and reshooting at a later date. The specific reasons behind this course of action have remained undisclosed by Kartik, Janhvi, and the production house.
Despite the project’s setback, both Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan have maintained a cordial and professional demeanor when their paths have crossed at film events. Their encounter at the inauguration of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne earlier this year was notably friendly, with Karan Johar commending Kartik for his contributions to Indian cinema and his ability to engage audiences.
As Karan Johar celebrates the 25th anniversary of his directorial debut, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” Kartik Aaryan is immersed in his role in Kabir Khan’s upcoming sports drama, “Chandu Champion.” The potential for the two industry figures to collaborate on future projects remains an intriguing prospect, although the nature of their future collaboration is yet to be determined.
