Bollywood filmmaker and popular talk show host Karan Johar is back on the reality TV scene, this time with a gripping new format titled The Traitors. The trailer for the show was unveiled on Thursday, revealing a star-studded lineup of 20 contestants who will fight for survival, trust, and a grand prize. But the internet is already buzzing — and comparing it to Bigg Boss, with many calling it a “sasta” version of the iconic show.
A Twisted Game of Deceit and Drama
The trailer opens with Karan Johar welcoming viewers to an opulent, mysterious palace where 20 “seedhe saadhe log” (simple people) gather to play what he calls a “sweet game.” But it quickly becomes clear that this is no ordinary competition.
Karan reveals the sinister twist: three of the contestants will secretly be chosen as traitors, who will “murder” innocent players each night. The rest must work together to identify and eliminate the traitors, creating a high-stakes environment of betrayal, mistrust, and emotional breakdowns.
In one dramatic scene, rapper Raftaar boldly declares, “If I am the traitor, I’ll leave rapping.” Meanwhile, Uorfi Javed ups the ante by vowing to shave her head if she turns out to be one of the deceivers.
Celebrity Contestants and Emotional Moments
The 20 contestants include well-known names from entertainment and social media, such as Karan Kundrra, Jasmine Bhasin, Apoorva Mukhija (aka Rebel Kid), Uorfi Javed, Lakshmi Manchu, rapper Raftaar, Elnaaz Norouzi, and even Raj Kundra. Other participants include Jannat Zubair, Anshula Kapoor, Janvi Gaur, Mukesh Chhabra, Harsh Gujral, Ashish Vidyarthi, Purav Jha, Nikita Luther, Maheep Kapoor, Sudhanshu Pandey, Sahil Salathia, and Sufi Motiwala.
The trailer teases plenty of drama and emotional turmoil. Contestants like Jasmin Bhasin, Apoorva, and Jannat are seen in tears, confessing, “This game is too hard.”
Social Media Reacts: ‘Looks Like Roadies Meets Bigg Boss’
The trailer has sparked a flurry of reactions on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. While some viewers expressed excitement about the intriguing premise and celebrity lineup, others found the concept reminiscent of other reality shows.
“This looks like a mix of Roadies, Splitsvilla and Bigg Boss,” one user commented. Another wrote, “This looks more interesting than Bigg Boss.” But some were more critical, calling it a “Sasta Bigg Boss.”
Despite the comparisons, fans are looking forward to watching their favorite celebrities, especially Apoorva, Purav Jha, Jasmin, and Karan Kundrra, in a never-seen-before avatar.
