Alia Bhatt’s latest crime thriller Jigra has crossed the ₹10 crore milestone at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned ₹6.5 crore on its second day, bringing the total collection to ₹11.05 crore in the domestic market. Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra features Alia Bhatt as Satya Anand and Vedang Raina as Ankur Anand, portraying a brother-sister duo at the heart of the story.

Storyline and Performances

Jigra follows Satya, who is determined to rescue her brother Ankur from a foreign jail in the fictional nation of Hanshi Dao. Ankur, framed by Kabir (played by Aditya Nanda) and his family, has been sentenced to death by electrocution. The movie also stars Manoj Pahwa, Harssh A Singh, Ankur Khanna, Rahul Ravindran, and Vivek Gomber in supporting roles, with special appearances by Sikandar Kher, Radhika Madan, Abhimanyu Dassani, and Diljit Dosanjh.

Box Office Performance

On its opening day, Jigra collected ₹4.55 crore, with a significant contribution from urban centers, particularly driven by Alia Bhatt’s star power. However, the film’s performance in mass-market regions was underwhelming, according to Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh. He shared the film’s box office figures on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the numbers were lower than expected.

Adarsh wrote, “#Jigra opens to lower-than-expected numbers, with a significant contribution from urban centres dominating the Day 1 biz, thanks to the star-power [#AliaBhatt]. As anticipated, the response from mass pockets is ordinary/lukewarm… An energetic start in the #Hindi heartland would’ve bolstered the opening day performance.”

Despite the lukewarm start, the Dussehra holiday on Saturday provided a boost, leading to improved collections. Industry experts predict that Sunday’s figures will further increase the film’s earnings. However, the crucial test for Jigra will come on Monday, as it will reveal how well the film sustains its momentum in urban centres and beyond.

Competition and Production

Jigra is competing at the box office with Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which was released on the same day. Both films have drawn attention for their contrasting themes and star-studded casts.

Jigra has been jointly produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Alia Bhatt, Shaheen Bhatt, and Soumen Mishra under the banners Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions. With its star-studded cast and gripping storyline, the film aims to continue its upward trend in the coming days.

As the film enters its first week, all eyes will be on how it performs in the coming days, particularly in urban centers where it has seen the most traction.
