Veteran actor Jaya Bachchan has expressed her strong disapproval of the title of Akshay Kumar’s 2017 film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Speaking in an interview with Indian TV, she questioned whether such a film title would attract audiences, stating that she herself would never watch a movie with such a name.
Jaya Bachchan’s Criticism
During the conversation, Jaya Bachchan was discussing films with social messages when she brought up Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. She remarked, “Abhi aap naam bhi dekhiye toh main aisi picturein khud kabhi na dekhne jau. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, yeh koi naam hai? Yeh koi title hai? Please bataiye aap logo me se kitne log iss tarah ki title wali film dekhne jayenge” (Look at the name of the film, I’ll never go to watch such movies. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha—is that even a proper title? How many of you would go and watch a film with such a title?).
When asked if anyone in the audience had watched the movie, a few raised their hands. In response, Jaya Bachchan instantly declared, “Picture flop hai” (It’s a flop film).
