Javed Akhtar, the acclaimed lyricist and screenwriter, has revealed that his X (formerly Twitter) account was recently hacked. The breach resulted in a “totally harmless” message about the Indian contingent for the Paris Olympics 2024 being sent from his verified handle.
In a post shared on Sunday night, Akhtar addressed his 4.6 million followers on X, stating, “My X ID is hacked. There is a message ostensibly from my account about our Indian team for Olympics. It is totally harmless but not sent by me.” The 79-year-old did not disclose when he first noticed the security breach or provide details about the content of the unauthorized post.
Akhtar, known for his outspoken views on various topics, has been actively using X to connect with his audience. He expressed that the incident was under control, adding, “We are in the process of complaining” to the appropriate authorities at the social media platform.
The noted poet and scriptwriter’s X bio reads: “A poet, lyricist, scriptwriter, atheist, and a die-hard optimist,” and his handle is @Javedakhtarjadu. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about account security on social media platforms and the potential for unauthorized content to be disseminated under prominent individuals’ names.
