Janhvi Kapoor Cherishes Diwali Traditions: A Heartfelt Nod to Mom Sridevi's Legacy

As the golden lights adorn Janhvi Kapoor’s Mumbai residence, the 26-year-old actor steps out in a pink saree, epitomizing the essence of Diwali traditions. In an exclusive interview with HT City, Janhvi Kapoor delves into the cherished customs that define the festive season for the illustrious Kapoor family.

“I have grown up in a household where traditions have been a big part of our family and my childhood,” Janhvi begins, reminiscing about her late legendary mother, Sridevi. “My mom always enjoyed decorating the house on this day. We would have a Diwali pooja, and on Ganesh Chaturthi, we would always meet as a family. Karva Chauth too is a big one. I guess our Indian heritage, traditions, and culture have always been a big part of our life.”

For Janhvi, these traditions are a poignant connection to her mother, who was known for her religious inclinations. “She has always been a very religious person. I guess my investment in all of these traditions makes me feel closer to mom,” Janhvi shares with a heartfelt smile.

No Kapoor family celebration is complete without the blend of good food and free-flowing conversations, and Janhvi’s favorite Diwali memories revolve around the annual Diwali dinner at her dadi’s house. Describing the scene, she says, “There’s always been the Diwali dinner at my dadi’s house. There is such amazing food, the entire house is decorated with lights. The entire family gets dressed together. A typical Diwali celebration looks exactly like this in my family.”

Detailing the day’s events, Janhvi explains, “There is pooja which happens during the day at either our office or house. For that, I have always seen mom wear a traditional Pattu saree; we would wear pattu pavadai for the pooja. Then for the dinner, we would have fun at dadi’s house, eating pulao, rajma, the Kapoor khandaan delicacies. I might have missed the dinner at times, but I have never missed the pooja,” she gushes, highlighting the enduring significance of the family’s Diwali rituals.

In essence, Janhvi Kapoor’s Diwali is a poignant celebration of family, tradition, and the indelible imprint of her mother’s love for festive customs.
