
Sunjay Kapur, an eminent Indian industrialist, polo enthusiast, and former husband of Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, passed away in England on Thursday. He was 53.
According to close sources, Kapur was participating in a polo match at the prestigious Guards Polo Club in England when he suddenly began experiencing discomfort. He reportedly complained of suffocation and requested to halt the match before stepping out of the field. Moments later, he suffered a fatal heart attack.
In a tragic turn of events, those close to Kapur revealed that he may have accidentally swallowed a bee during the game, and the resulting sting in his throat possibly triggered the cardiac arrest.
Kapur was well known in both corporate and social circles. He served as the Chairman of Sona Comstar, a globally recognized mobility technology company that manufactures precision-engineered automotive components. Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Gurugram, Sona Comstar has a presence in India, the USA, Serbia, Mexico, and China, and is also a key supplier to the electric vehicle (EV) industry.
Apart from his business ventures, Kapur was passionate about polo and was the patron of his own team, Aureus. At the time of his death, he was competing against the team Sujan, led by hotelier Jaisal Singh.
An alumnus of the prestigious Doon School, Sunjay Kapur had deep roots in Indian elite society. He was previously married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, with whom he shared two children – daughter Samaira and son Kiaan. After their divorce, he married Priya Sachdev, a model and entrepreneur.
