Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently revealed that he went through a deep phase of depression and turned to alcohol following his divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta. In an interview with Instant Bollywood, the actor candidly spoke about how he isolated himself for over a year and struggled to cope with the separation.
Aamir Khan on His Emotional Struggles
Reflecting on his state of mind after the split, Aamir admitted, “When Reena and I broke up for the first time, I was in mourning for almost two to three years. I wasn’t working or listening to scripts. I was alone at home, and for almost 1.5 years, I drank a lot.”
He further shared how he went from being a teetotaler to drinking an entire bottle of alcohol in a day. “You will be shocked to know that I never drank before. But after the breakup, I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t sleep at night, and I started drinking. From someone who didn’t drink at all, I became someone who finished a full bottle in a day. Main Devdas tha! (I was like Devdas). I was in a deep depression,” he admitted.
Coming to Terms with Loss
Aamir emphasized the importance of accepting loss and moving forward. He said, “You have to face your losses. Accept how important it was for you. Accept that what was once yours is not there now. Also, accept how good it was for you when it was there, and how much you will miss it when it isn’t there anymore.”
Aamir Khan’s Marriages and Personal Life
Aamir Khan married Reena Dutta in 1986, and the couple had two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. They divorced in 2002. Later, Aamir married Kiran Rao in 2005, but the two parted ways in 2021 after 15 years of marriage. They have a son, Azad, born through surrogacy.
Recently, Aamir introduced his new girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, at his pre-birthday bash, revealing that they have been dating for 18 months. The couple interacted with the media, marking a new chapter in Aamir’s personal life.
