Goa Declares Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava Tax-Free, Honoring Maratha Warrior Sambhaji Maharaj

The Goa government has declared the upcoming Hindi film Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, tax-free in the state. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made the announcement on Wednesday, coinciding with the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire and father of Chhatrapati Sambhaji.

A Tribute to Maratha Valor

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CM Sawant emphasized the historical significance of Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy. “It gives pleasure to me to announce that the movie Chhaava, based on the life & sacrifice of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be tax-free in Goa,” he wrote.

He further highlighted how the film brings to life the bravery and sacrifices of Sambhaji Maharaj, who fought against the Mughals and the Portuguese for Dev, Desh, and Dharma (God, Nation, and Religion). “The movie explores the valor and courage of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal, and brings his glorious history to the screen. His sacrifice is an inspiration for all of us,” Sawant added.

Madhya Pradesh Follows Suit

On the same day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also announced that Chhaava would be tax-free in his state. The move by both states is seen as a tribute to the Maratha warrior’s contributions to Indian history.

About the Film

Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal in the titular role, alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna. The historical drama is expected to showcase Sambhaji Maharaj’s fierce battles, unwavering patriotism, and ultimate sacrifice.

The decision to make the film tax-free is expected to encourage more audiences to watch the film and educate them about the rich history of the Maratha empire. With growing anticipation, Chhaava is set to be a cinematic tribute to one of India’s greatest warriors.
