“Bastar: The Naxal Story,” directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, has garnered attention for its portrayal of the Naxal insurgency in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district. Despite earning its highest amount on Sunday, the film falls behind its predecessor “The Kerala Story” in box office collections, as reported by Sacnilk.com.
Since its release, “Bastar: The Naxal Story” has collected just over ₹2 crore in India. The film, headlined by Adah Sharma playing the role of an IPS officer, explores the challenges and complexities of the Naxal conflict in the region.
The box office performance of “Bastar: The Naxal Story” saw an opening day collection of ₹40 lakh, followed by ₹75 lakh on the second day and ₹90 lakh on the third day (Sunday), totaling ₹2.05 crore nett in India.
Comparatively, “The Kerala Story,” also directed by Sudipto Sen, had achieved a significant milestone by earning ₹16 crore at the domestic box office by its third day of release, indicating a higher level of audience engagement.
Critics have shared mixed reviews about “Bastar: The Naxal Story.” The Hindustan Times review acknowledges the film’s patriotic fervor and commitment to showcasing the sacrifices of those impacted by the conflict. However, it also points out the film’s reluctance to delve into the complexities and nuances of its subject matter, leaving some aspects feeling incomplete.
Director Sudipto Sen described the film as a “human document” focusing on the everyday violence faced by people in the region. Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah emphasized the film’s intention to explore human tragedy without delving into politics, aiming to highlight the real sufferings of common people caught in the crossfire.
