Mumbai police have arrested Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national who entered India illegally and was living under the false identity of Bijoy Das, for breaking into Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s home in Bandra. The accused allegedly attacked the actor and his staff during the burglary attempt.
Arrest After Massive Manhunt
The police deployed 30 teams and scanned extensive CCTV footage to track Shariful. They initially identified him leaving Saif’s building and traced him through a bike captured on a CCTV camera in DN Nagar, Andheri. Simultaneously, intelligence inputs led officers to a rented accommodation in Worli, where the accused previously stayed.
Using Shariful’s phone number, police tracked his location to a deserted area in Thane. A team surrounded him and took him into custody. Officials discovered evidence confirming his Bangladeshi nationality and illegal entry into India.
The Attack on Saif Ali Khan’s Household
According to police, Shariful claimed he was unaware he had broken into Saif Ali Khan’s residence. However, investigators believe he targeted the actor’s home for a significant loot due to financial difficulties.
The incident occurred late Wednesday night when nanny Eliyama Philip, 56, noticed suspicious activity around 2 a.m. She reported hearing noises and spotting the intruder in the children’s room. When confronted, the man threatened her and demanded ₹1 crore. He was armed with a wooden stick and a long Hexa blade.
Ms. Philip sustained injuries while protecting herself from the attacker. Hearing her screams, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan rushed to the scene. When Saif confronted the intruder, he was attacked, sustaining six stab wounds, including one near his spine.
The family managed to escape to an upper floor while the intruder fled the scene. Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital and is now recovering.

During questioning, Shariful admitted to seeing his images on news channels, prompting him to flee to Thane and hide near a labor camp. He reportedly used the building’s rear staircase and air-conditioning ducts to gain entry.
