The Vicky Kaushal-starring film “Bad Newz” has shown impressive growth at the box office on its ninth day of release, despite the fierce competition from major releases like “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.” As of the second Saturday, the film has earned an estimated ₹3.25 crore nett in India, bringing its total earnings to ₹48.25 crore.
Released on July 19 and directed by Anand Tiwari, “Bad Newz” has been performing well domestically. In its first week, the film earned ₹42.85 crore. On its eighth day, it collected ₹2.15 crore, and the latest figures reflect a significant boost in performance. The film had an overall 29.90% Hindi occupancy on Saturday.
The film revolves around Triptii Dimri’s character, Saloni Bagga, who suffers from heteropaternal superfecundation—a rare medical condition resulting in twins born from different fathers. Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk play competing characters, Akhil Chadha and Gurbir Singh, vying to prove themselves as the better father figure and win Saloni’s heart.
“Bad Newz” has already surpassed ₹70 crore at the global box office and has grossed over ₹78.30 crore worldwide. Produced by Amritpal Singh Bindra, Apoorva Mehta, and Karan Johar, the film also features Neha Dhupia in a pivotal role and cameos by Ananya Panday and Neha Sharma.
Despite mixed reviews, the film has been noted for its clever meta jokes and humor. The Hindustan Times praised the film’s script for its witty incorporation of references, including a nod to Vicky Kaushal’s previous work and playful jabs at common stereotypes.
