Director Atlee, the creative genius behind the blockbuster film “Jawan,” is setting his sights on one of the most prestigious accolades in the film industry—the Oscars. With “Jawan” achieving massive success at the worldwide box office, grossing over ₹800 crores, Atlee is now eyeing the coveted golden statuette and has even playfully mentioned discussing the prospect with none other than the film’s star, Shah Rukh Khan.
In a recent interview with ETimes, Atlee shared his ambitions for “Jawan” on the global stage, stating, “Of course, even ‘Jawan’ should go, if everything falls in place. I think every effort, everybody, every director, every technician who is working in cinema, their eyes are on the Golden Globes, Oscars, National Awards, every award. So, definitely, yeah, I would love to take ‘Jawan’ to the Oscars. Let’s see. I think Khan sir will watch and read this interview. I will also ask him over a call ‘Sir, should we take this film to the Oscars?”
“Jawan” has been a resounding success since its release, dominating both international and domestic box offices. Within a little over a week, the film crossed the remarkable ₹800 crore milestone worldwide, with its Indian earnings inching close to ₹500 crore. Notably, it became the fastest Hindi movie to reach the ₹400 crore mark in the country.
The film, directed by Atlee, is a high-octane action thriller that delves into the emotional journey of a man determined to right societal wrongs. Shah Rukh Khan shines in the dual role of Vikram Rathore and his son Azad, using the film’s narrative to shed light on pertinent social and political issues. The ensemble cast includes Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles, with Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt making special cameo appearances. Adding to the star power, the movie also features Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Girija Oak, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Lehar Khan, Aaliyah Qureshi, Ridhi Dogra, Sunil Grover, and Mukesh Chhabra.
“Jawan” marks the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and director Atlee, and Atlee had some warm words to share about the superstar. He said, “He is a very basic human and has a basic heart. We had to tell him that you are Shah Rukh Khan, sir. He is a very basic human by nature…He is always the same. He can never be changed.”
As Atlee’s aspirations for “Jawan” to make a mark on the global stage become more apparent, fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting whether this action-packed masterpiece will indeed make its way to the Oscars and continue to win hearts worldwide.
