In a heart-wrenching event, Malaika Arora’s father, Anil Kuldip Mehta, tragically passed away by suicide on Wednesday morning in Mumbai’s Bandra. He was 65 years old. Mr. Mehta allegedly jumped from his apartment building, leaving the family in deep sorrow. His mortal remains are being cremated today, with many friends and colleagues from the film industry attending to show their support during this difficult time.
Among the first to arrive at Malaika’s residence was her ex-husband, actor-producer Arbaaz Khan, who came with his wife, Shura Khan. Arbaaz was one of the initial family members to visit Malaika after the tragic news surfaced. The Khan family, including Salim Khan, Salma Khan, Sohail Khan, and Alvira Agnihotri, also visited Malaika’s home in Bandra to offer their condolences.
Malaika’s mother, Joyce Polycarp, was seen deeply affected as she made her way to the crematorium, supported by her grandson, Arhaan. Joyce, who was reportedly home when the incident occurred, broke down during the ceremony. She recalled to the police that around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, she noticed her husband’s slippers in the living room and began searching for him. Unable to find him, she leaned over the balcony railing and witnessed a commotion, with the building’s security guard shouting for help. That moment, she realized something terrible had happened.
Reports from IANS reveal that prior to his tragic death, Anil Mehta had called both his daughters, Malaika and Amrita Arora, telling them, “I’m tired,” before allegedly jumping off the balcony. Mr. Mehta had worked in the Indian Merchant Navy and was part of a Punjabi family, while Joyce Polycarp, his wife, is a Malayali Christian. Malaika, born in Thane, lived with her mother and sister in Chembur after her parents’ divorce when she was 11 years old.
