Days after announcing his separation from his wife of 29 years, Saira Banu, renowned music composer AR Rahman has taken legal action against individuals spreading defamatory content about him and his family.
On Saturday, the 57-year-old musician shared a legal notice on social media, targeting those disseminating “objectionable” and false information. The notice, posted on X (formerly Twitter), demanded that such content be removed within 24 hours to avoid legal consequences.
“Notice to all slanderers from ARR’s Legal Team,” Rahman captioned the post. The notice read, “My client informs the hatemongers and sharers of abusive contents to remove the objectionable content within the next one hour and a maximum time duration of 24 hours.”
The move follows Rahman and Saira Banu’s announcement of their separation after nearly three decades of marriage. In a heartfelt post, Rahman wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again.”
Adding to the speculation, bassist Mohini Dey, who has collaborated with Rahman on various projects, also announced her separation from her husband, Mark Kutsch. This parallel development sparked further rumors linking the two events.
Rahman’s legal notice emphasized that the false narratives circulating online are causing harm to his family and reputation. “This only shows the social media persons who intend to harm the reputation of my client are being content starved for their productions and are inventing highly imaginary and false stories to defame my client merely for their cheap short-lived publicity,” the notice stated.
The composer’s legal team has warned of strict action against individuals who fail to remove defamatory content, reiterating that such baseless rumors not only tarnish his image but also distress his loved ones.
Rahman, an Oscar-winning musician celebrated globally for his contributions to music, has largely kept his personal life private. His decision to address these allegations publicly underscores the emotional toll that the spread of misinformation can take on public figures and their families.
