Amitabh Bachchan Recalls Heartwarming Incidents with Ratan Tata on Kaun Banega Crorepati

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan recently reminisced about two heartwarming incidents involving the late Ratan Tata, the industrialist known for his humility and simplicity, during a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16. The episode, which featured filmmaker Farah Khan and actor Boman Irani, saw Bachchan recount these memorable moments with great admiration.

While chatting with Farah and Boman, Amitabh recalled an incident when one of his friends had attended an event with Ratan Tata. At the end of the event, instead of heading home in a luxury vehicle, Tata asked Amitabh’s friend if he could give him a lift. “He told my friend, ‘Can you drop me home? I just live behind your house,'” Amitabh shared, highlighting Tata’s down-to-earth nature. Reacting to this, Farah was touched, and Boman responded with surprise, saying, “Oh my God.” Bachchan added with a laugh, “Can you imagine Ratan Tata saying, ‘I don’t have a car?’ It’s unbelievable.”

In another story, Amitabh recalled a flight to London where Tata’s humility once again shone through. On landing, Tata needed to make an urgent phone call but couldn’t locate his assistants. To Bachchan’s astonishment, Tata approached him and asked, “Amitabh, can I borrow some money from you? I don’t have money to make a phone call!” Tata went on to use a phone booth, a move that highlighted his humility and lack of pretension.

These anecdotes are a testament to the simplicity and kindness of Ratan Tata, who was as admired for his character as for his achievements. Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, Tata was instrumental in transforming the Tata Group and remained a leading philanthropist through his work with the Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, among India’s largest private philanthropic organizations. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor, in 2008.

Ratan Tata passed away in Mumbai on October 9 this year at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy that extends far beyond business.
