Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has tested positive for COVID-19 for the third time. The actor, who experienced symptoms during the promotions of his latest film Sarfira, has once again contracted the virus. Several members of the promotional team for Sarfira have also tested positive.
This marks Akshay’s third encounter with COVID-19. He first contracted the virus in April 2021, leading to hospitalization, and again in May 2022. During his 2022 bout, Akshay had to cancel his visit to the India Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival. At the time, he shared on X (formerly Twitter), “Was really looking forward to rooting for our cinema at the India Pavilion at #Cannes2022, but have sadly tested positive for Covid. Will rest it out. Loads of best wishes to you and your entire team, @ianuragthakur. Will really miss being there.”
On the work front, Akshay Kumar’s latest film Sarfira hit theatres on Friday. Despite the actor’s health setback, the film continues to be screened as planned.
Up next for Akshay is Khel Khel Mein, which has been rescheduled to release on August 15 (Independence Day) instead of its original September 6 date. Co-star Taapsee Pannu shared the news on her X handle, posting a photo featuring the star-studded cast, which includes herself, Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Pragya Jaiswal, Aditya Seal, and director Mudassar Aziz. She captioned the photo, “This Independence Day, step into a mad world of laughter, drama & loads of fun! Mark your calendars for August 15, 2024, when #KhelKhelMein hits the theatres.”
