Abhishek Bachchan has once again challenged Bollywood norms, surprising fans with a potbellied look in Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film I Want To Talk. In a candid interview with Galatta Plus, the actor shared insights into his choices and why he opts for roles that prioritize authenticity over conventional glamour.

A Potbellied Transformation for Shoojit Sircar

Abhishek Bachchan, who plays a cancer survivor in I Want To Talk, revealed the thought process behind his striking physical transformation for the film. “Shoojit asked me, ‘Look, I want that potbelly. Are you willing to do it?’ I said, ‘Absolutely.’ I trusted him completely because I knew he had a specific aesthetic in mind, and the character demanded it,” he said.

This isn’t the first time Abhishek has embraced unconventional looks for his characters. From sporting a realistic physique in Mani Ratnam’s Guru (2006) to his transformations in The Big Bull and Bob Biswas, the actor has consistently prioritized the demands of the script over vanity.

Why Six-Pack Abs Never Made the Cut

Abhishek shared why his iconic role as ACP Jai Dixit in the Dhoom franchise didn’t feature him flaunting six-pack abs, even though the action-packed films seemed perfect for such a portrayal. “ACP Jai Dixit isn’t the kind of guy to walk around shirtless. He doesn’t need to show his body to assert his power. That was my reasoning. It’s about staying true to the character,” he explained.

A Journey Sans Vanity

The actor, known for his grounded approach to storytelling, reflected on his career trajectory. “I’ve shown my stomach in I Want To Talk and Guru, but not in Dhoom. It’s a deliberate choice,” he said, adding that roles requiring physical transformations don’t feel as daunting anymore. However, Abhishek admitted he’s ready to explore more conventional Bollywood lead roles, something he hasn’t done in over a decade.

Fans Excited for I Want To Talk

The first look of I Want To Talk has already sparked intrigue among fans, who are eager to see Abhishek’s portrayal of a cancer survivor in a slice-of-life story. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film promises to blend realism with a heartwarming narrative, further solidifying Abhishek’s reputation as an actor unafraid to experiment.
