In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, the actress delved into her thoughts on the enduring impact of the film and her journey thereafter.

“Roja,” a Tamil-language romantic thriller released in 1992, catapulted Madhoo to fame with her memorable performance alongside co-star Arvind Swamy. Despite the passage of three decades, the film continues to resonate deeply with audiences, solidifying Madhoo’s place in cinematic history.

She shared, “It started bugging me that I am doing so much work but still people are talking about that one film. I tried really hard to up myself at that time.”

Madhoo candidly admitted that she initially resisted acknowledging Mani Ratnam’s pivotal role in shaping her career trajectory. She recalled, “There was an element of ‘I.’ I did it all. I refused to give credit to anybody.” However, she expressed regret over her attitude, recognizing Ratnam’s genius and the significant impact he had on her career.

The actress lamented not conveying her gratitude to Ratnam at the time, acknowledging that he deserved recognition as the visionary behind “Roja.” She emphasized, “Mani sir deserves the credit. He was the head of the crew, experienced and a genius. I should have told him, at that time… wow Mani Sir, you gave me an identity.”

Her candid reflection serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging and appreciating the contributions of mentors and collaborators in one’s career.
