The battle for the top spot in women’s ODI cricket has intensified following the completion of the India vs England ODI series, with Nat Sciver-Brunt of England climbing to the No.1 position in the ICC Batting Rankings. India’s Smriti Mandhana, who recently held that title, now moves to second.

A Powerful Series Performance Pushes Sciver-Brunt Ahead

Nat Sciver-Brunt showcased her class throughout the three-match series, scoring a total of 160 runs, including a near-century (98 runs) in the final ODI. While her efforts couldn’t prevent a series loss for England, they did enough to catapult her to the top of the ICC ODI batting chart.

This is her first time at No.1 in 2025, regaining a position she last held in 2023. Her resurgence is a strong signal ahead of the Women’s World Cup later this year.

Mandhana’s Ranking Slide Comes Despite Decent Show

India’s stylish left-hander Smriti Mandhana had briefly returned to the No.1 position last month, a milestone she achieved after impressive outings in the South Africa–Sri Lanka tri-series. However, with 115 runs in the England series, she couldn’t hold on to the lead, slipping back to No.2.

Still, Mandhana remains a key figure in India’s top order and continues to deliver consistent performances in major matches.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur Leads from the Front

One of the standout moments from the series came from Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who hammered a match-winning 102 off just 84 balls in the final ODI at Chester-le-Street. This performance not only sealed the series for India but also lifted her 10 places in the ICC rankings, bringing her into the top 10 batters globally.

She finished the series with 126 runs, second only to Sciver-Brunt.

Jemimah Rodrigues Rising Steadily in the Charts

Youngster Jemimah Rodrigues continued her growth as a dependable batter in India’s middle order. With 101 runs across three matches, she moved up two spots in the ODI rankings to 13th place. Her adaptability and calm under pressure are quickly establishing her as one of India’s most reliable ODI assets.

Deepti Sharma Maintains Her Bowling Rank

Among bowlers, India’s premier all-rounder Deepti Sharma held firm at No.4 in the ODI bowling rankings. Although she picked up just one wicket, her 92 runs with the bat were vital for the team. Ahead of her in the list remain Sophie Ecclestone, Ashleigh Gardner, and Megan Schutt.

Deepti’s all-round contributions will be crucial as India prepares for the upcoming World Cup challenge.

Team India’s Confidence Soars Ahead of ICC Women’s World Cup

India’s 2-1 victory in the ODI series against England serves as a significant morale booster just ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, scheduled for September. With several players making upward moves in the global rankings, the team seems well-prepared for the biggest stage in women’s cricket.

Major ICC Ranking Shifts After India vs England Series:

  • Nat Sciver-Brunt – Rises to No.1 with 160 runs
  • Smriti Mandhana – Drops to No.2 despite consistent outings
  • Harmanpreet Kaur – Climbs into the top 10 with 126 runs
  • Jemimah Rodrigues – Moves to 13th after scoring 101 runs
  • Deepti Sharma – Holds 4th among bowlers; strong all-round presence

Final Thoughts

The ICC’s latest ODI rankings reflect the dynamic nature of women’s cricket, where leadership and form can shift rapidly. While England celebrates Sciver-Brunt’s return to the top, India’s commanding series win and multiple player improvements offer encouraging signs for their World Cup campaign.
