Sourav Ganguly Confirms Rajkummar Rao to Star in His Biopic

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao will portray him in an upcoming biopic. Speaking to the media, Ganguly revealed, “From what I’ve heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the role (the titular role)… but there are issues of dates… so it will take more than a year to hit the screens.”

The much-anticipated film will showcase the life and legacy of Ganguly, fondly known as the Prince of Kolkata, who played a crucial role in shaping Indian cricket.

Sourav Ganguly’s Cricket Legacy

Ganguly had an illustrious career, representing India in 113 Test matches and 311 ODIs, scoring a total of 18,575 runs across all formats. Under his leadership, India won 21 Test matches and reached the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

After retiring in 2008, Ganguly transitioned into administrative roles, becoming the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) before being appointed president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in October last year. He also served in BCCI’s technical committee and was a part of the Cricket Advisory Committee alongside legends Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.

Rajkummar Rao’s Upcoming Films

Apart from the biopic, Rajkummar Rao has a busy schedule ahead. He will be seen in:

  • Bhool Chuk Maaf – Starring alongside Wamiqa Gabbi, this upcoming film presents a unique time-loop concept where Rajkummar’s character relives the same day repeatedly. The teaser features the song Chor Bazaari from Love Aaj Kal (2009). Directed by Karan Sharma, the film is produced under Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios.
  • Maalik – Produced by Kumar Taurani (Tips Films) and Jay Shewakramani (Northern Lights Films), this film is slated for a theatrical release on June 20, 2025.
