AR Rahman’s Ex-Wife Saira Banu Undergoes Surgery After Medical Emergency

Saira Banu, the ex-wife of renowned music composer AR Rahman, was recently hospitalized due to a medical emergency and had to undergo surgery. The news was shared through an official statement by her lawyer, Vandana Shah.

The statement, issued on behalf of Saira Banu, read: “A few days ago, Mrs. Saira Rahman was hospitalized due to a medical emergency and underwent surgery. During this challenging time, her sole focus is on a speedy recovery.”

She also expressed gratitude to those who stood by her, including her friends from Los Angeles, Resul Pookutty and his wife Shadia, as well as Vandana Shah and AR Rahman himself. The statement further requested privacy during her recovery period and thanked well-wishers for their support.

This comes shortly after Saira Banu and AR Rahman announced their separation after nearly 29 years of marriage. The couple cited “significant emotional strain” as the reason for their decision to part ways. Rahman had shared the news on social media, expressing that while they had hoped to celebrate 30 years together, life had other plans.

“We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter,” Rahman wrote on X.

AR Rahman and Saira Banu married in 1995 and have three children—Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. As Saira focuses on her recovery, well-wishers continue to extend their prayers and support.
