Kangana Ranaut, known for her candid remarks and ongoing feud with filmmaker Karan Johar, has once again made headlines with her recent comments on the singing reality show Indian Idol 15. The actress expressed her willingness to cast Karan Johar in one of her directorial ventures, even offering him “a very good role.”
Kangana’s Offer to Karan
When asked if she would act in a movie produced by Johar’s Dharma Productions despite their well-documented differences, Kangana responded with laughter, stating, “Karan sir ko mere saath movie karni chahiye (Karan sir should do a movie with me). I’ll give him a very good role and make a very good film, which will not be about saas-bahu ki chuglibaazi or just a PR exercise. It will be a proper film, and he’ll get a proper role.”
Kangana’s comments come years after she famously referred to Johar as the “flag-bearer of nepotism” during her appearance on Koffee with Karan in 2017. At the time, she also identified him as the “villain” of her potential biopic, a moment that sparked a larger industry-wide debate about nepotism in Bollywood.
Revisiting the Infamous Feud
In her earlier appearance on Koffee with Karan season 5 alongside her Rangoon co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor, Kangana’s remarks stunned Johar and left a lasting impression on Bollywood. Karan later defended his record of launching new directors under Dharma Productions and clarified that his decision not to work with Kangana was a matter of choice, not bias against outsiders.
Kangana’s Upcoming Projects
Kangana is gearing up for the release of her much-anticipated directorial debut, Emergency. The period political thriller, set during the 1975 Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stars Kangana as Indira Gandhi and features a stellar cast, including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, and Milind Soman. Produced under her banner Manikarnika Films in collaboration with Zee Studios, Emergency is set to hit cinemas on January 17.
Karan’s Next Venture
On the other hand, Karan Johar is set to make his long-format debut with a new Netflix India show, marking a significant step in his career as a director in the digital space.
While Kangana and Karan’s relationship continues to be a topic of intrigue in Bollywood, her latest comments suggest a willingness to move beyond their past clashes—at least professionally. Fans now eagerly await both Kangana’s Emergency and Karan’s Netflix debut to see how their respective creative visions unfold.
