Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' Re-release Earns ₹1.20 Crore on Opening Day, Beats 'Laila Majnu'

Ayan Mukerji’s beloved 2013 romantic comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, made a big splash on the big screen once again, thanks to its re-release this Friday. The film, known for its unforgettable music, vibrant portrayal of friendship and love, and iconic performances, earned ₹1.20 crore on its opening day, marking a highly successful return to cinemas.

According to reports from Sacnilk, the film sold 65,000 tickets on its reopening day, contributing to its impressive ₹1.20 crore opening. This earnings figure has placed Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in the spotlight, securing the second-best opening for a re-released film. It now holds a prominent place, surpassing several other re-released films, including Laila Majnu (2018), which earned ₹30 lakh, and other classics such as Karan Arjun (1995) and Veer-Zaara (2004).

In its heyday, the film had grossed ₹188.57 crore in India and ₹318 crore worldwide. The re-release has only further elevated its reputation, with its opening day earnings adding to the original gross and attracting more fans to the theaters. The film also exceeded expectations, surpassing the re-release numbers of Laila Majnu, which earned ₹30 lakh on its opening day, and even some legendary films like Kal Ho Naa Ho and Veer-Zaara.

Not just the box office, the film’s fanbase couldn’t contain their excitement either. Karan Johar, the producer of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, took to Instagram to share an energetic video of cinema-goers dancing to the famous track Badtameez Dil. He wrote, “Converting cinemas into rock concerts! YJHD is back in theatres!” Fans couldn’t get enough of the unforgettable energy the film brought to the big screen, once again bringing back cherished memories of their favorite characters.

The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapur, the late Farooq Shaikh, Tanvi Azmi, and Rana Daggubati. With music by Pritam, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to be remembered as a unique cocktail of youth, love, friendship, and adventure. The movie also marked the first on-screen collaboration between Ranbir and Deepika after their breakup, which added to the film’s emotional weight for fans. The film also holds significance as the second collaboration between Ranbir and Ayan Mukerji after their successful Wake Up Sid (2009), with their latest project Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022) also being part of their creative partnership.

With its memorable music, vibrant cast, and timeless storyline, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to win hearts, proving that some stories are truly evergreen. Fans are still flocking to theaters to relive the magic, making the re-release an undeniable success.
