Kanguva Box Office Collection Day 6: Suriya's Film Struggles to Cross ₹60 Crore Mark Despite Anticipation

Director Siva’s magnum opus featuring Suriya, Disha Patani, and Bobby Deol faces challenges at the box office.

Suriya’s highly anticipated 2024 release, Kanguva, has been facing mixed reactions at the box office, struggling to gain momentum despite its grand scale and star-studded cast. The film, directed by Siva and produced on a budget exceeding ₹350 crore, opened to a decent response on its release day but has seen a gradual decline in earnings. The movie, which stars Suriya, Disha Patani, and Bobby Deol, has grossed ₹59.65 crore in total as of Day 6, with the latest box office update indicating a mere ₹2.9 crore collection on its sixth day of release.

On its opening day, Kanguva had a strong start, raking in ₹24 crore from its release across all languages. However, following this initial success, the film’s earnings have experienced a noticeable dip. The second day saw a significant drop, with ₹5.54 crore, while the third day garnered ₹9.85 crore. Sunday’s collection added ₹10.25 crore to the total, but the earnings on Day 5 decreased further to ₹3.15 crore.

The film’s Tamil occupancy on Tuesday was reported to be just 11.90 percent, pointing to a decline in audience interest after the initial days of release. The overall trend suggests that Kanguva is struggling to maintain its box office appeal despite its star power and the grandiose visuals promised by the filmmakers.

The film’s reception has been mixed, with many viewers particularly critiquing the loud background music, which detracted from the overall experience. Critics and audiences alike have raised concerns about the pacing and execution of the film, which blends historical and present-day storylines.

In Kanguva, Suriya plays a tribal warrior who is determined to save his people from colonization, while also portraying a bounty hunter in the present day. Disha Patani’s character also plays a bounty hunter, and Bobby Deol takes on a role as a warrior similar to Suriya’s character.

In a pre-release interview, Suriya had expressed his excitement about the scale of the film, comparing it to Hollywood epics like Braveheart and The Lord of the Rings. He shared that Kanguva was a long-awaited opportunity to bring such grand narratives to Indian cinema, something that had not been explored before on this scale.

Despite the challenges it is facing at the box office, Kanguva still has some room for improvement, especially with the upcoming holiday season that could give it a slight boost. However, for now, the film’s struggle to cross the ₹60 crore mark after six days is a sign that it may not live up to the massive expectations set before its release.

Produced by K E Gnanavel Raja, V Vamsi Krishna Reddy, and Pramod Uppalapati, and featuring music by the renowned composer, Devi Sri Prasad, Kanguva has a lot of potential but may need to work on connecting with its audience if it is to recover its huge production costs.
