Ahead of his much-anticipated ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert in Hyderabad, Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh received a legal notice from the Telangana government, warning him against performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence. The event is set to take place on Friday at 7 PM at the GMR Arena on Airport Approach Road.
The notice, issued on November 7 by the Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens of Rangareddy district, was based on a complaint by Chandigarh-based professor Panditrao Dharenavar. The professor submitted video evidence alleging that Dosanjh performed such songs during his live shows at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 26 and 27.
“We are issuing this notice in advance to deter promoting these in your live show,” the notice stated.
Guidelines Issued for the Concert
The notice also directed Dosanjh to refrain from involving children on stage, citing health concerns related to sound levels. It referenced World Health Organization guidelines, which recommend adults not be exposed to sound levels above 140 decibels and children to levels above 120 decibels.
“Concert guidelines state that children below 13 years of age are allowed to attend, but concerts may include loud sounds and flashing lights—both harmful to children,” the notice read.
Past Accusations Against Punjabi Singers
Punjabi singers, including the late Sidhu Moosewala, have faced criticism and legal action for promoting gun culture and violence. Moosewala was booked under the Arms Act in 2020 for his song Sanju, which glorified gun violence. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also issued warnings in 2022 against songs glorifying drugs and violence.
Preparations for the Concert
Despite the notice, the ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert is expected to draw over 20,000 fans. Cyberabad police commissioner Avinash Mohanty confirmed that arrangements for traffic management, crowd control, and crime prevention have been made. “There are no specific curbs from our side,” he said.
Diljit, who landed in Hyderabad on Wednesday, shared his excitement about the city on social media. In a video posted on X, he took an auto-rickshaw ride and visited the iconic Charminar.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the concert, hoping for a memorable night as Dosanjh takes the stage, adhering to the guidelines issued.
