Juhi Chawla Reminisces About Shah Rukh Khan's Financial Struggles, Recalls Heartwarming Anecdote

Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla recently shared a touching anecdote about her longtime co-star and friend, Shah Rukh Khan, highlighting his resilience and journey from financial difficulties to stardom. Speaking at an event organized by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Juhi recalled a period in the 1990s when Shah Rukh Khan faced financial challenges that led to his car being repossessed due to unpaid EMIs.

Juhi Chawla reflected on the early days of their careers when Shah Rukh Khan, originally from Delhi, struggled with accommodation in Mumbai and relied on meals provided on film sets. She mentioned, “He had no home in Mumbai so he’d come from Delhi. Of course, there was nobody to cook for him and I’m not sure where he stayed. He used to eat from the unit’s plate, drink tea with the unit, and thoroughly enjoy chatting and joking with everyone.”

Recalling Shah Rukh Khan’s dedication to his work during that period, Juhi recounted, “He had one car, a black Gypsy. He was working round the clock, shooting for multiple films including ‘Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman’ and ‘Dil Aashna Hai’. Due to some financial setbacks, he couldn’t pay the EMI for his car, and it was taken away. He came to the sets that day very dejected.”

Juhi Chawla shared how she tried to uplift Shah Rukh’s spirits during that tough time, reassuring him that better days were ahead. “I must’ve said, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll have many more cars. They’ll just come, you’ll see. It’s nothing.’ He still remembers it,” she said fondly.

Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan’s friendship spans decades, beginning with their successful collaborations in hit films like “Darr” and “Yes Boss”. They later ventured into film production together with the company Dreamz Unlimited and also co-own the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The actress concluded her heartfelt recollection by marveling at Shah Rukh Khan’s journey from those challenging days to becoming one of Bollywood’s most iconic stars. “Now look at him. Look at where he’s gone. It’s actually that,” she remarked, emphasizing his remarkable rise to success despite early setbacks.
