In a recent development following death threats against Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, a Raipur-based lawyer, Faizan Khan, has been summoned by Mumbai Police for questioning. Khan, also known as Mohammad Faizan Khan, claims he is the victim of a conspiracy, citing that his phone was stolen shortly before the alleged threats were made.
The death threat, accompanied by a demand for ₹50 lakh, was received by Mumbai Police, sparking an investigation into its origins. Initial findings by Mumbai Police led them to Chhattisgarh, where Faizan Khan resides within the jurisdiction of the Pandri police station in Raipur. Authorities revealed that the threat call had been made from a phone number registered under Faizan’s name, prompting his summoning by law enforcement.
Previous Dispute Over Shah Rukh Khan’s Film Dialogue
The lawyer’s name surfaced with another link to Shah Rukh Khan, albeit a contentious one. Faizan Khan had previously filed a complaint against the Bollywood star, objecting to a line from Khan’s 1994 movie Anjaam, which referenced deer hunting. Faizan, a Rajasthan native with connections to the Bishnoi community—a group known for its deep commitment to protecting wildlife—found the reference offensive and sought action against it. The Bishnoi community, predominantly from Rajasthan, holds deer in high regard, and Faizan’s ties with them prompted his complaint.
“Being associated with the Bishnoi community, which considers deer protection a duty, I was deeply offended by the dialogue,” Faizan stated, explaining his past complaint against Shah Rukh. He added, “Whoever has made a call from my phone, it seems intentional. I think it is a conspiracy against me.”
Faizan Khan’s Response to the Summons
Following his summoning, Faizan explained to the media that his phone was stolen on November 2, shortly before the threat was reported. He promptly lodged a complaint regarding the stolen phone and informed Mumbai Police that he believes someone used it to make the threat. He stated, “My phone was stolen, and I lodged a complaint. I told Mumbai Police about it. They interrogated me for about two hours.”
While Faizan has cooperated with authorities, he firmly denies any involvement in the threats and suspects someone is trying to implicate him because of his past complaint.
Ongoing Investigations and Legal Actions
The Mumbai Police registered an extortion case at Bandra police station under sections 308(4) and 351(3)(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for extortion involving threats of death and criminal intimidation, respectively. No arrests have been made in connection with the case thus far.
This incident follows a spate of recent threats against another Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan, allegedly linked to his 1999 blackbuck poaching case. Mumbai Police continue to investigate the matter, and authorities are examining all possible motives and connections to ensure the safety of Shah Rukh Khan.
Conspiracy or Misunderstanding?
As investigations progress, questions remain about Faizan Khan’s role in the case and the authenticity of his claim of a stolen phone. While Faizan asserts that he has been wrongfully implicated, the authorities are committed to a thorough probe to identify the true source of the threat.
