Actors Venkatesh, Rana Daggubati Booked for Alleged Illegal Demolition of Hyderabad Hotel

Hyderabad Police have registered a case against Telugu actors Venkatesh Daggubati and his nephew Rana Daggubati, along with two other family members, for the alleged illegal demolition of Deccan Kitchen Hotel in January 2024. The hotel, located in the Film Nagar area of Hyderabad, was demolished despite court orders prohibiting the action.

Police Case and Court Order

The case against Venkatesh, Rana, their father Suresh (a renowned film producer), and brother Abhiram (also a producer) was filed following a directive from a local court. The court order came after Nanda Kumar, who had leased the property, alleged that the demolition violated an injunction from the City Civil Court and orders from the Telangana High Court.

Kumar claimed he suffered a financial loss of ₹20 crore due to the demolition. The police have been directed to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Background of the Dispute

The dispute dates back to November 2022, when the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) razed part of the Deccan Kitchen Hotel and adjoining structures built by Nanda Kumar, citing them as “unauthorized.” Despite this, Kumar continued to operate on the premises, leading to further legal and property conflicts.

In January 2024, the Daggubati family reportedly demolished the entire structure, ignoring pending legal injunctions.

Controversy Surrounding Nanda Kumar

Nanda Kumar, the complainant, has his share of legal troubles. He is an accused in a 2022 case involving the alleged poaching of MLAs from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi). Despite this, his complaint against the Daggubati family has drawn attention due to the involvement of high-profile individuals.

Next Steps

The Hyderabad Police will now investigate the allegations, including whether the demolition violated court orders. The case has brought significant public scrutiny due to the prominence of the accused, who are well-known figures in the Telugu film industry.
