Urvashi Rautela Clarifies Temple Remark After Backlash, Says Her Words Were Twisted by Media

Actor Urvashi Rautela has issued a clarification following severe criticism over her recent remark about a temple being named after her in Uttarakhand. The actor came under fire from both social media users and religious leaders, who accused her of being “delusional” and of disrespecting religious sentiments.

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Urvashi had said, “There is a temple in my name in Uttarakhand. If one visits Badrinath, there is an ‘Urvashi temple’ right next to it.” When asked if people go there to seek blessings, she had replied with a laugh, “Ab mandir hai toh woh hi toh karenge (It’s a temple, so that’s what they’ll do).”

The comment sparked outrage, especially among locals and priests who consider the Urvashi temple sacred. The temple, located near Badrinath, is associated with Hindu mythology and is believed to be one of the 108 Shaktipeeths — significant sites where parts of Goddess Sati’s body are believed to have fallen. The temple holds immense spiritual value, with many asserting that the actress’s words trivialized its importance.

In response, Urvashi’s team issued an official statement on Saturday, clarifying that her words were taken out of context. “Urvashi Rautela said that there is a temple in my name in Uttarakhand, not Urvashi Rautela’s temple. Now people don’t even listen to things properly; just hearing ‘Urvashi’ or ‘temple,’ they assumed that people worship Urvashi Rautela,” the statement read.

The actor further emphasized the need for accurate reporting and responsible social media conduct. “It is essential that before making baseless allegations or derogatory comments against any individual, the facts are thoroughly verified. Everyone in society should treat each other with respect and understanding so that everyone’s rights can be protected,” the statement concluded.

As of now, no formal action has been initiated against the actor, though the incident has once again stirred debates over celebrity statements and religious sensitivities.
