Ayushmann Khurrana to Play the New Prem in Sooraj Barjatya's Next Family Saga

After a brief hiatus from filmmaking, celebrated director Sooraj Barjatya is returning to the silver screen with his next project, and he has a new Prem for the role. Known for his family-oriented romantic sagas, Barjatya is set to bring a fresh touch to his beloved genre, casting Ayushmann Khurrana as the new-age Prem.

According to a Pinkvilla report, the director and actor have formed a strong bond during their collaboration, and Khurrana has expressed excitement for the world Barjatya is trying to create in this upcoming project. A source close to the development shared that Sooraj Barjatya specifically sought an actor with a strong connection to family audiences, and Ayushmann Khurrana, with his relatable charm and innocence, was the perfect fit for the role of Prem.

“Sooraj ji was looking to cast someone who has an image among the family audiences, and who better than Ayushmann Khurrana to play the new-age Prem on the big screen,” the source revealed. The filmmaker believes that Khurrana’s personality embodies the warmth and sincerity needed for the character, which is expected to resonate deeply with viewers.

The film, which is still untitled, will be set against the backdrop of Indian culture and will tell a love story that stays true to the themes of family and tradition that Barjatya’s films are known for. The movie is expected to begin filming in summer 2025.

While the lead pair of Ayushmann Khurrana and the female protagonist is already in place, Sooraj Barjatya is now working on finalizing the rest of the star-studded ensemble cast. Like his previous films, this project will feature a significant ensemble, ensuring it maintains the grand scale that has been a hallmark of Barjatya’s successful films.

Sooraj Barjatya’s legacy includes iconic films like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Vivah, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, each celebrated for their heartwarming family stories and memorable characters. With Ayushmann Khurrana taking on the role of Prem, fans are eagerly anticipating the filmmaker’s return to the genre he has mastered.
