Television star Rupali Ganguly has found herself in the midst of another controversy involving her stepdaughter, Esha Verma. In a now-deleted social media post, Esha called the Anupamaa actress “evil” and accused her of scheduling a court hearing on her birthday. However, after the post went viral, she later clarified that she had intended to send the message to a friend, not post it publicly.
Family Drama Spills Onto Social Media
A few days ago, Esha took to her Instagram Stories to express frustration over her upcoming court hearing coinciding with her birthday. She wrote, “Ty to the evil step lady for scheduling the next court date on my bday muah,” seemingly referring to Rupali.
After screenshots of her post surfaced online, Esha quickly issued a clarification. In a response to Pinkvilla, she explained, “I use my socials to connect with my friends and share my thoughts—it’s always been a personal space for me. I was just typing out my feelings before bed and had meant to send it to a close friend, but it accidentally went to my story. I wasn’t trying to start anything or make this public—it was just me processing my emotions in the moment.”
She further stated that the situation had been overwhelming, adding, “Seeing my court date fall on my birthday has been overwhelming, and I was simply expressing my frustration. It’s exhausting to be constantly monitored, and frustrating to see casual posts turned into headlines.”
Esha’s Allegations Against Rupali Ganguly
This public rift is not new. In 2020, an old post by Esha resurfaced in which she accused Rupali Ganguly of breaking her parents’ marriage. She also claimed that Rupali had threatened her and her mother.
In an earlier interview with Bollywood Bubble, Esha made strong allegations against the actress, saying, “I don’t know what Rupali and Ashwin will now say further to these allegations and comments. My father said on Twitter (now X) that Rupali was not involved, and that is the biggest lie. Rupali was the one who came to my house in New Jersey and slept on my mother’s bed—the bed that my father and mother shared. She has done so much, physically, mentally, verbally, and emotionally, abusing me and my mom.”
She further added, “We suffered a lot, and we don’t have the exposure she does.”
Rupali Ganguly’s Legal Action Against Esha
Following these allegations, Rupali Ganguly sent a ₹50 crore defamation notice to Esha, stating that her claims had damaged her reputation, violated her dignity, and adversely impacted her career, leading to substantial financial losses.
After receiving the notice, Esha deleted all posts related to Rupali and made her Instagram account private. However, she has now reactivated her public profile, reigniting the controversy.
