Ranbir Kapoor's "Animal" Rakes in ₹116 Crore on Day 1, Breaks Non-Holiday Opening Record

Ranbir Kapoor starrer “Animal” has stormed the global box office on its opening day, smashing records and establishing itself as the highest non-holiday opener in Hindi cinema history. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film, featuring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Rashmika Mandanna, premiered in theaters on December 1, garnering an unprecedented worldwide collection of ₹116 crore on its debut.

The film’s production team took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce this milestone achievement, confirming earlier estimates that anticipated a substantial ₹100 crore global opening for the crime drama. A promotional poster shared by the makers heralded “Animal” as having achieved “The biggest non-holiday opening in Hindi Cinema ever. Worldwide gross ₹116 cr.”

“Animal” faced competition from Meghna Gulzar’s period drama “Sam Bahadur,” starring Vicky Kaushal, at the box office. However, its staggering day one earnings have positioned it among the highest opening day collections, falling between two Shah Rukh Khan releases of this year: “Jawan” with ₹125.05 crore and “Pathaan” at ₹106 crore.

The film’s storyline features Ranbir Kapoor portraying a vengeful and enraged son of Anil Kapoor, earning praise for his performance. A review from Hindustan Times described Ranbir as “in top form,” embodying the essence of “Animal” by Sandeep Reddy Vanga with a compelling blend of vulnerability and villainous traits. The actor’s portrayal elicited empathy from viewers even during intense sequences, reflecting his prowess in character portrayal.

Despite its commendable performances, the film faced criticism for its portrayal of misogynistic themes. The review highlighted the on-screen chemistry between Ranbir and Rashmika Mandanna as sizzling but pointed out the director’s ease in transitioning the protagonist into a chauvinist and perpetuating the notion of a toxic marriage.

“Animal” marks a significant milestone in Ranbir Kapoor’s career, setting a new benchmark in the realm of non-holiday release openings and signaling a strong start for the film at the global box office. The movie’s performance and reception among audiences and critics alike are anticipated to shape its trajectory in the coming days.
