Ranbir Kapoor recently shared emotional insights into his childhood during an interview with Nikhil Kamath for People by WTF on YouTube. The actor candidly spoke about the impact of his parents’ tumultuous relationship on his early years.
In the interview, Ranbir revealed that he was profoundly affected by the frequent arguments between his late father, Rishi Kapoor, and his mother, Neetu Singh. “Anybody who speaks in a louder tone, it disturbs me, since childhood,” Ranbir said. He recounted spending much of his childhood in their bungalow’s staircases, listening to the fights and feeling scared and anxious. “My parents went through a lot of fights. I was always scared and on the edge.”
Ranbir further explained that the emotional turmoil was exacerbated by his sense of responsibility, as his sister was not around during this period. He shared that his mother would confide in him about her feelings, but his father was less expressive, leaving Ranbir without a full understanding of his father’s perspective.
Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, who married in January 1980, had a complex relationship that was known to be challenging at times. The couple had two children, Ranbir and his elder sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, who is now married to Bharat Sahni. Ranbir himself married his “Brahmastra” co-star Alia Bhatt in April 2022, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Raha Kapoor, in November 2022.
On the professional front, Ranbir Kapoor continues to make waves in the film industry. After his debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Saawariya,” he has starred in several successful films, including “Wake Up Sid,” “Rajneeti,” and “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.” His most recent project, “Animal,” directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, was a commercial success despite criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity and violence.
