Kangana Ranaut's Emergency Trailer Unveiled: A Powerful Portrayal of Indira Gandhi and a Defining Chapter in Indian History

The much-anticipated trailer for Kangana Ranaut’s political drama Emergency has been released, offering a compelling glimpse into one of India’s most controversial historical events. Shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Kangana and Zee Studios’ YouTube channel on Monday, the trailer showcases a gripping narrative centered around former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s declaration of Emergency in 1975.

In the trailer, Kangana, portraying Indira Gandhi, declares herself the “cabinet” in a bold conversation with the President. Anupam Kher appears as Jayaprakash Narayan, who challenges her decisions from jail through a letter. Shreyas Talpade takes on the role of a young Atal Bihari Vajpayee, adding depth to the ensemble cast.

The trailer paints a vivid picture of the turbulent period. Kangana’s Indira Gandhi stands resolute, announcing in the Assembly that “the only way to accept the truth is to wage a war,” despite opposition from other leaders. Milind Soman, as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, questions her intent for war, to which her silent yet piercing gaze provides an answer.

As chaos ensues, the nation is plunged into violence and unrest, highlighting the far-reaching impact of Gandhi’s decision. The trailer closes with her powerful assertion: “Indira is India.” Kangana’s performance captures the intensity and determination of the former Prime Minister as she imposes her will on the nation.

Sharing the trailer, Kangana tweeted, “1975, Emergency — A Defining chapter in Indian History. Indira: India’s most powerful woman. Her ambition transformed the nation, but her #EMERGENCY plunged it into chaos.”
