Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth Officially Divorced; Actor Files Suit Against Nayanthara

Tamil superstar Dhanush and filmmaker Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth are now officially divorced. The Chennai Family Welfare Court granted their separation after the couple stated they could no longer live together. Married in 2004, the couple share two sons, Yatra and Linga, and continue to co-parent them while living near each other in Chennai’s Poes Garden.

A 2022 Announcement of Separation

The divorce proceedings follow the couple’s announcement on January 17, 2022, where they declared their separation after 18 years of marriage. Dhanush shared on social media:
“18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been one of growth, understanding, adjustment, and adaptation. Today, we stand at a place where our paths separate.”

Aishwaryaa posted a similar message, expressing mutual respect as they transitioned into their new roles as co-parents.

Legal Conflict with Nayanthara

Meanwhile, Dhanush is also in the midst of a legal dispute with actress Nayanthara over footage used in her Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. Dhanush, who produced the 2015 Tamil film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, has accused Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Sivan, of including visuals from the movie without his consent.

Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films Private Limited has filed a civil suit against Nayanthara, Vignesh, and their Rowdy Pictures Private Limited at the Madras High Court. The suit alleges unauthorized use of footage in the documentary and demands ₹10 crore in damages.

Nayanthara’s Response

Nayanthara recently criticized Dhanush for sending a legal notice over a three-second behind-the-scenes clip from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. The actor called his actions unnecessary, further escalating the public fallout between the two.

The case is currently under consideration, with the court asking Nayanthara and Vignesh to respond to the suit at the next hearing.
